I grew up just a few miles from the Old Lantern in Charlotte Vermont. My family has had many weddings there over the years, including 3 of my cousins. We still have a camp on Lake Champlain a few miles away. Wendy and I have had the pleasure of doing about 20 weddings there over the past decade. There are plenty of great photographic vistas on site, and within a few miles of the venue. Often I will whisk my couple away for some private time. Just the 2 of them down by the lake, or in a nearby field, perhaps with horses, cows or hay bales in the background. Of course the grounds at the Old Lantern are great also! Lots of fun angles, and a nice view for a sunset at the golden hour. We often start our day at the Inn for the preparations and pre-wedding formal photos, and then move on down for ceremony. If it rains, the inside has the perfect Vermont flavor. It is a wonderful old structure, decorated nicely with soft white twinkle lights.
The best part is we get to work with the wonderful staff, led by Lisa and Roland. We don't see Roland much as he is in the back doing his Chef duties. But we certainly work well together with Lisa and her front crew. She calls us the A-team!
For indoor photos, we bring supplemental lighting that we set-up around the room. Nobody notices anything, as it is very unobtrusive. It gives us nice, bright backgrounds, even after the sun goes down. No dark reception photos for us!
