I have always liked using different angles to create impact at a wedding. Sometimes I go low and shoot up, to show a large room or vista. Often I am on my belly doing this, or using a tripod, as my tripod goes right down to the ground. Rarely do I do this at a wedding, as I don’t want to be a spectacle. So I would say I use this technique sparingly. But, when needed I love getting low!
More often, especially once the crazy dancefloor at a wedding begins, I use a camera on a monopod to get the birds eye view. I use a 17-28 wide-angle lens, or sometimes a 20mm. Both give a very large angle of view, so I can show the entire dance floor at once. Since I use 3 cameras at EVERY wedding, I leave the wide-angle lens always mounted and ready to go, so i never miss a thing by changing lenses. I have been doing this for a few decades, and it gives me one more tool to be distinctive, and offers a look that most photographers don’t do. Certainly not the most important photos of the wedding day, but a lot of fun for sure!
