Real Vermont Weddings & MORE!

Vermont Winter Weddings

Seems like there is a growing trend in Vermont for happy couples to have their wedding in the winter months. Of course there is always the weather to deal with, but you have that issue in the summer as well. One awesome perk is that many businesses that cater to the Vermont wedding industry offer discounts for off-season weddings. The same great services at a reduced rate, that is never a bad thing! Winter is also a good time to schedule weddings, as many folks are not as...

Hand Tinted Wedding Photos

One of the most requested photos that I am asked about are black and white photos with just a touch of color. This can add a real nice touch to an already dramatic photo. But, it can also be over-done, or even worse, done poorly. If the colors are too vivid, it can look unnatural. I like it best when the colors are muted, which can look like an old photo that has faded, or perhaps a photo from the first part of last century that was photographed...

Sparklers at your wedding

What a great way to put a fun finishing touch on your wedding. It also makes a great night time photo opportunity. Photographers remember to turn off you flash as it will ruin the streak effect. Most cameras have a night time mode that could be useful. These photos were taken at the Lake Placid Club in New York, and at The Lang Barn and The Essex, in Essex Junction, Vermont. -Geoff- ...

Great Vermont sites for outdoor wedding photos!

I often get asked where are the best spots for outdoor wedding photos. Of course I do not want to give up all of my secrets, but here are a few of my favorite local sites: 1-The Fishing Pier just north of the Burlington Boathouse by the Coast Guard station. Not only is there ample parking, but it is also rarely used. This can be a problem on the waterfront in Burlington, as there are often times too many people walking around getting in the photos. The other great...

What are you putting on top of your wedding cake?

I am Geoffrey McLoughlin, owner, photographer and the creative spark for the Portrait Gallery. This is my first blog for 2011. I had started a blog in 2009, but never kept up with it. I eventually stopped blogging after 12 posts. Those posts were mostly oriented towards individual images and how we created them. I say we, because many of these images were photographed by my wife Wendy, and also by my 5 staff wedding photographers. I am changing the direction of my new blog posts to be...

Bride and Daughter

What a fun photo of a bride and her daughter. Both are getting ready for the wedding in the bride's bedroom. The lighting was very dim, so I grabbed my best low light camera. I focused on the bride, but composed the image so her daughter was making up the background. They are both looking into the image which brings your eye back and forth between the two subjects. The bride was having her gown zipped up while her daughter looks on. I love the way both have...
